A moving light installation in the Garden of the New Tibet Haus
For over 35 years, Frankfurt designer duo Jean-Marc da Costa and Manfred Wolf, together with their company serien.lighting, have been focusing on the theme of light.
In autumn of last year, in the presence of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, the new Tibet Haus was opened in Frankfurt. The Tibet Haus Germany, a Wilhelminian style mansion which had long hosted a university institute, is an established cultural institution in Frankfurt’s Westend, situated between the Senckenberg Museum and the Trade Fair. Here is a place for those interested in Tibet - Buddhists as well as non-Buddhists - to learn about Buddhist philosophy and practice, stress relieving techniques, as well as ancient and modern Tibetan culture.
Serien.lighting had the honor of gloriously illuminating all areas of this “Place of Enlightenment”. The Luminale 2018 will now make this special place accessible to a greater public. Serien.lighting presents moving solitary objects, which change in their size and form. This interpretation of the tree as spiritual symbol, associated in Buddhism with knowledge and enlightenment, can be seen in the garden of the Tibet Haus.
