Death and Mourning

A project of Simone Rduch

The installation FIVE is a work by Simone Rduch, whose theme focuses on the five phases of death and mourning. Both processes follow a similar pattern: refusal to believe or acknowledge, anger, coming to terms, depression and acceptance.

Death is a theme which all of us must face at some point. It is the goal of this installation to “air” this taboo and sensitize the issue of death, explicitly the act of dying and mourning.

In the room are five consecutively staggered circular areas of gauze. The gauze panels are permeated by film. Decisive is the visual presentation, which characterizes the individual phases on an aesthetic, abstract and emotional level. So as to illuminate the process with more intensity, color symbolism, metaphors and sound differentiate between the individual phases and visualize the course of death and mourning, mediating between fiction and personal experience.

Simone Rduch is currently completing her master’s degree in design at the Academy of Trier, where she has already graduated in Intermedia Design, after studying audiovisual design at the Willem de Kooning Academy of Rotterdam.
