HIBB DER BACH UN DRIBB DER BACH

Connecting Frankfurt

A project of Fabian Thiele

Since 1869, the Eiserne Steg (Iron Bridge) with its metal arches has characterized the panorama on the banks of the River Main; financed back then by the citizens of Frankfurt. Until today, the Iron Bridge connects Frankfurt’s Old Town with the district of Sachsenhausen across the river.

Many artists and writers have immortalized the bridge in their works, including dialect poet and committed democrat and one of Frankfurt’s best-known literati, Friedrich Stoltze (1816-1891). His poem “HIBB DER BACH UN DRIBB DER BACH” forms the contextual frame for Fabian Thiele‘s typographic light installation.

The poem was kindly donated by the Frankfurter Sparkasse‘s Stoltze Museum.
