Light Cocoon Frankfurt

A project by students of architektur of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences under the direction of Jürgen Hummel

The LIGHT COCOONon the green verge of the Nibelungallee between the BCN tower block and the Campus of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences was built as a temporary installation for the Luminale 2016. Development and construction of the Cocoon was conducted by architecture students under the leadership of Prof. Wolfgang Rang in cooperation with the University of Innsbruck Bartenbach Academy, Prof. Dr. Christian Bartenbach. The overall concept was creatively and structurally brought to fruition with the Light Academy Bartenbach, Prof. Hans Reinke from Werner Sobek Ingenieure Frankfurt and all the students of the Design Seminar. A mirrored, elliptical inner room as daylight and art light sculpture with both material and immaterial spatial and light effect. In the interim, the light cocoon was declared a permanent light art work by the City of Frankfurt. For the Luminale 2018, the light art work has been expanded into a non-dimensional labyrinth of light and sound.
