The Night – Everything but Sleep

Exhibition opening in the Museum für Kommunikation

On Thursday, 22 March 2018, the Museum of Communication will open the exhibition THE NIGHT. EVERYTHING BUT SLEEP From a wide variety of perspectives, the interdisciplinary exhibition highlights our behavior and communication at night. The visitors thereby experience the most diverse facets of the "other half of the day": from the first star maps and the search for meaning in the night sky, to strategies for controlling our feelings of the night, to the utilization of the night as an additional work or living time. Around 350 objects from mythology, astronomy, art, pop culture, technological history and contemporary phenomena, show how we communicate in and with the night.

While strolling through the night, the guests encounter the night's horror in the bestiary, interactively push-starting the nocturnal thought carousel and working throughout the night. They plunge into the history of nightlife, exchange perfumed flirt cards and leave virtual graffiti behind. In the end, they find themselves once again in the sleepless world of modernity and the present - in the twilight zone between pleasure and work, boundlessness and loss of control, freedom and constraint.
